When in Rome . . .

After many, many mishaps we finally made it to Rome, and even have the rest of our trip booked. We're spending two days here, taking a day trip to Florence, night-training to Nice, staying over in Montpellier, going to Barcelona, returning to Paris, and finally parting ways on the 7th of January. Hopefully I'll have the stamina to continue at this breakneck pace.

Here's Laura at a rather funky time of the trip. This was right after we learned of the continual selling-out of every train from Florence and Rome to Paris. Not good news. We concocted several elaborate plans for every possible scenario, but luckily we managed to get our first choice. I would like to take this opportunity to make a formal complaint against Rome's train station. Not only were there no benches in the entire station, the information desk was so skillfully hidden it took two maps and twenty minutes to find. We didn't even manage to get to the desk because some lady accosted us with information on local hotels and we fled the line to be rid of her.

Luck favored us and we managed to find a very decent hotel right next to the train station. The front desk area smelt badly of bodily odor, but the room even had a shower so there are no problems here. Twin beds, sweet!

The advertisements were completely right when they said that SmartCars can park horizontally. I've seen about a million of them in the past three days.

I think it's time for an actual Italian scenery picture. I can't remember what building this is, or was, but it's not the Colosseum. We're checking that out tomorrow alongside the Vatican and perhaps the Pantheon. Minutes are passing in this internet cafe that we were lucky to find, so over and out.
